I was able to get through all the story mode courses except what I assume is the last one in F-Zero GX, and I assume it is the last one because I was so sure that the one before it was the last one. I felt like I was pretty good at the game generally but once I switch it onto the master class it's pretty much a lost cause. I was able to beat the easiest circuit (Knight?) a couple times, but that was about the end of that. I assume by using a custom car you can make it a bit easier but I never really got into that after I learned that you don't get a character ending when you do. :P
I also suffered greatly at the hands of F-Zero Advance. I can only assume that playing the master class there is what it feels like to be anally raped, because that's pretty much what it is--the only way I was able to stay ahead of ANY competitors, even the ones who should have lower top speeds than mine and don't even corner as well as I do, was to intercept them and let them ram into me from behind over and over until finally they smash my exhausted vehicle into a wall and they dash away, never to be seen again.
For Megaman, I beat all the ones I cared to back in the day, 1-4 and the first two X games. Megaman X is beyond easy for me now, I've played it (far) more than any other. Guys like Sting Chameleon and Flame Mammoth tremble in fear as soon as I plug the cart in.
I'm not sure what brought this to mind when I've got stuff like Gaiares or Target Earth to compare with, but anyway: Ristar, a game I would ordinarily consider to be of average difficulty, is really, really hard when you play it on the Super setting. I spent roughly 8 hours straight on it--you die in one hit and you have zero lives (so no checkpointing), but you can continue indefinitly. My reward for this preservance was a screen that said "thank you" or something. I never did that again, obviously. I was never able to get past the space stage in Rocket Knight Adventures on the hardest setting either, where you get no lives and no continues and die in one hit, but can at least earn a few 1ups as you progress. I'm sure I could have done the entire game without taking a hit, just not all on one go.
There are very few games (that aren't just plain unfair and/or poorly designed) that I've played that don't seem to me like they can be overcome with preserverance (and the occasional visit to GameFAQs), so even with the hardest of games I tend to think that as long as I keep at it I'll eventually get past those tough spots. Once I've beaten a game I might remember it as challenging, but never really "hard." "Frustrating" is an entirely different adjective altogether, reserved for stuff like Sonic Heroes and Bangaioh's end boss.

Anything on the Master System. Mega Drive games were for pussies, games on the MS were fucking quests to complete. They didn't call it Master System for nothing, I guess. Or they were just overly-optimistic.
Also:-
Anything Mega Man
Super Mario Sunshine (for the same reasons posted before)
V-Joe on the later difficulties
Any FF game you're not levelled up enough on
Die Hard Trilogy
Both of the Satanic Ecco games
Shining The Holy Ark
Mystical Ninja on the GB (just...don't)
The GB Oddworld game (its worse than you think)
Incredible Crisis (it's fun when you're the beginning guy, but after that it's painful)

Shit, I forgot all about Viewtiful Joe. I still can't beat those four bosses in a row on Adult. Even if I could, I know for a fact that I could never beat the boss of that level on Adult, Fire Leo or whatever. Hell, it took me awhile to beat him on Kids and I bought one of those things that refills your health when you run out.

I think Another Joe would have to be the official <i>"this-guy-is-such-a-bitch"</i> boss of that game. I was up for a long time trying to beat that sonbitch. Somehow, I can now beat him in under a minute...
<i>oops...spoiler!</i>
It's still a pretty fun game though. Believe it or not, it's actually one of the current top games for the Gamecube. And Viewtiful Joe 2 is one of the mose anticipated game for the Cube.
There's also a Viewtiful Joe anime out. Anyone know anything about it? I've seen a few previews/commercials for it, and it actually looks pretty good.

Sorry, Spazz... I'll have to disagree. While Another Joe was fairly difficult, the "OH NO I WANT TO KILL THE DESIGNER WITH MY SWEATY CONTROLLER" boss was definitely Fire Leo.Spazz wrote:I think Another Joe would have to be the official <i>"this-guy-is-such-a-bitch"</i> boss of that game. The final boss was a little too easy... but what the battle lacked in difficulty, it made up for in "supa-awsuma"-ness.

You're both wimps! WIMPS! There is nothing more satisfying then beating Fire Leo on Ultra V rated as Captain Blue.Green Gibbon! wrote:That puts us in the same boat.I play on Adult mode and I get stuck. I play on Kids mode and get bored. Thus, I still haven't made it past level five.
It's your turn to row.
...except perhaps beating Ikaruga on one credit.
