Michel Ancel of Ubisoft commented that Beyond Good & Evil is the first episode of a trilogy. That is the reason why gamers experienced an abrupt ending; Ancel didn't want a concrete conclusion, but one that is abstract. Now, does this confirm they're working on a sequel? He never says so, but Ubisoft is a large company and Ancel is important to them.
Considering the first one sold like crap, I'm wondering if Ubi is actually going to greenlight two more. Hopefully.
I suppose it's possible. Ubisoft has remarkably intelligent management for a game company... perhaps they could figure out a way to combine the critical acclaim of the original with a decent marketing campaign to make the sequel a commercial success. They are, after all, making a sequel to Prince of Persia, which also sold way fewer copies than expected. (Although not nearly as few as BG and E).
And that, my friends, is what we call "wishful thinking." :)
Yeah, but Prince of Persia sold more and more as word spread around and now PoP2 is quite the anticipated sequel. Not enough people even played BG&E to spread the word around. Ah well, I think it will get the greenlight at some point in time, when though I have no idea.
