    • Sonic Adventure: Limited Edition, a beta version of the North American Sonic Adventure, is released for rental through Hollywood Video.

    August 30:
    • "Sonic Underground", an animated series from DiC, enters syndication in the US. Sonic the Hedgehog, his brother Manic, and his sister Sonia circle the planet in search of their mother, the queen. Along the way, the three siblings raise the spirits of repressed citizens with their music band, Sonic Underground. Unfortunately, Dr. Robotnik is conducting his own search for the queen in the meanwhile, and a clash of causes is sure to ensue. Jaleel White returns to provide the voices of all three main characters: Sonic, Manic, and Sonia. Other voices include Gary Chalk as Dr. Robotnik and Ian Corlett as Knuckles. A total of 40 episodes were produced, though only 32 originally aired. As of 2008, the complete series is available on DVD.
